IIAC Conference Tennis
The Beaver's finished out their season this past weekend at the IIAC Men's Individual Conference Tournament in Cedar Rapids. The weather did not fully cooperate as most of the tournament was held indoors. In singles senior Derrick Young and sophmore Ben Young recorded wins in their first round match up. In doubles team captain Aaron Wigg and Tim Coleman had a strong finish making it to the quarterfinals. The competition at the conference was very solid and I thought we competed well overall as a team. The Beaver's will lose only one player from this year's squad and the outlook for next year looks promising with some of the new recruits.Posted by McCadamsK [Men's Tennis] ( April 29, 2008 03:48 PM ) Permalink | Comments[0]

Men's Tennis Split in Dual Match
The Beaver's were back in action this past weekend with a dual match with Cornell College and Bethany Luther in Storm Lake. The first match with Cornell prove to be a tough test as they won 9-0. Cornell is a very solid team and even though we were down a player as Derrick Young, who is a student asst. coach for our men's basketball team who made it to the NCAA sweat 16 tournament. We made some adjustments to our lineup and still played a respectable match with Cornell. Our doubles scores and play was much closer than the match indicated.
Our second match was with Bethany Luther(Minn.) and the Beaver's triumphed with a 8-1 victory! Our doubles teams of #1 Aaron Wigg and Tim Coleman got the momentum going first with a solid net game. #2 Ron Muhammad and Andrew Humprey stepped up for our second doubles win and #3 Ben Stone and Jeff Nichols proved themselves to our third doubles win to start out the match. Singles victory for the Beavers were led by captain Aaron Wigg with a hard fought victory at #1 singles. Ben Stone improved his singles record with a solid baseline performance.#3 Ron Muhammad lost a close match after being up 5-2 in the second set. #4 Andrew Humphrey overpowered his opponent with his win. #5 Tim Coleman got his big serve rolling to out-finished his opponent in a close match. #6 Jeff Nichols out played his opponent with a consistent baseline game.
Overall, our team keeps improving with each match they play. We will have our spring break coming up next week. The Beaver's will be on the road for the most part of April.
Next match will be Wednesday, March 26 against Central College in Ft. Dodge at 4pm.

Meet Team Member Aaron Wigg!
Aaron has been playing tennis most of his life and started playing competitive tennis since his 7th grade year. He chose to come to Buena Vista University because of the campus life, after visiting BVU and attending a basketball game he was astonished by all the student support. "Everyone gets along and athletic events are always a blast", said Aaron. In his spare time Aaron enjoys drawing, playing cribbage, and watching movies. Playing #2 singles and #1doubles with partner Jeff Shinrock, Aaron enjoys his teammates and has fun playing as a team. Aaron is also very active on campus as he is in charge of the Student Activities Board of on-campus activities . Aaron is a big supporter of Beaver athletics as you will see him cheering on the sidelines or in the stands (as Buford T. Beaver......our mascot!). BVU and BVU Tennis is proud to have a student such as Aaron.Posted by McCadamsK [Men's Tennis] ( March 27, 2007 01:51 PM ) Permalink | Comments[0]
