Fall practice focuses on World Series

The Buena Vista Baseball program is now approaching the end of the fall practice season, as Game 1 of our Fall World Series begins next week.  We have spent a lot of time introducing our philosophy and making sure we teach as much as possible.  It is not my belief that we need to spend a lot of time on tedious team defensive drills during the fall season, rather we spend time on improving individual skills. With the incredible indoor practice facility that we have on campus, we tend to save our bunt coverage drills and rundown drills for the spring season. The team has practiced with a lot of intensity, and I have been very happy with what has taken place so far.

The first scrimmage went very well, with pitchers dominating the hitters, which is typical for this time of the year.   With any great team, pitching and defense will lead to the desired end result.  That is what we saw last Sunday, our pitching and defense was above average for this time of year.

Due to NCAA rules, I really cannot get into too many details about our scrimmages (start times, dates, etc.).  If you want to watch some baseball this fall, feel free to call or email me.

In the coming entries, you can look for more information about some of our players.  We will begin by introducing you to some of our newcomers.  Our freshman class has already made an impact and there is so much potential in this class.  With eight seniors on our roster, this class will be important to the success of our program in the years to come.
