Grinnell Meet

Well we have finished up with our second meet. Things didn't exactly go the way we wanted them to. Our times were not great but everyone is learning to work together better and we are fighting for places when it counts. We're gonna try and change a few things in practice and see if we can start to see better performances. On a good note, the team is really close right now and its great to have a solid group working towards one goal. One step at a time.

By looking at the meet results it appears the times are much slower than last year at this time of the season... did you expect this? When do you expect the runners' times to start improving? I noticed last year the times looked much more impressive.... can you explain?

Their are a number of reasons. First of all we trained through this meet. I am attempting to teach the team that the meets throughout the season are there for experience and the only meets that count are conference, regionals and eventually someday nationals. I did expect times to not be as good as last year at this time in our season. I expect to see times drop within the next few weeks as we approach the conference championships. Cross Country is not like other sports. We are looking to perform really well in two meets and tweek things in the other meets. I hope this answers your question and thank you for the inquiry.
