We Are In

I am so happy for our guys, especially, our seniors as we make a trek to St. Paul, MN, to play St. Thomas on their home floor.  Not going to lie to you, it was a tough couple of days waiting to hear whether we got in or not.  And on top of that, once there was only the St. Thomas bracket left, I knew it came down to that site.  It was great to see our name on that line.  It’s one thing to get in and be happy about it, but it is also another, when you deserve to be in the tournament.  And we deserve to be in.  We are a real good team, with a lot of weapons.  We can do all things pretty well.  St. Thomas is really good too.  They won the Minnesota League and won it by 3 games.  They are athletic, and can really put the ball in the basket.  We look for a good game.  We will have trouble stopping them, but the same probably holds true for us.  Our key is to make sure we keep our turnovers down.  If we can do that, we will at least have a chance.

If we win, we play the winner of Stevens Point and University of Chicago.  What is weird about this, is that in 2000, we played the Sweet 16 here in Storm Lake, and 3 of the 4 teams return to St. Paul for another round this weekend.  Stevens Point, Chicago, and BVU, played in that Sweet 16 in Storm Lake.   Chicago’s head coach Mike McGrath and I have become good friends since then, and stay in touch, so it will be good to see him again this weekend.  I hope we have a chance to play each other.

Our team leaves tomorrow, Thursday, at Noon, so not sure we will be able to keep up the blog this weekend, but will try to get back in touch on Friday, if I can get to a computer.  I will try to give an in depth view of what is happening while we prepare for the tournament game.  Steve Phelps, our SID, will be going on the trip, so I will make sure I stay in touch with our fans.  Sorry I have missed the last few days, but obviously, this is a very busy time for our team and making arrangements takes time.  Also had to go out of town yesterday, to our Iowa Conference Coaches Meeting.  So needless to say, time is short.  But having the time of my life.  This is awesome, and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
